In this Naples city break review, you will get to know the advantages and disadvantages of the city, as well as my personal experience and opinion about the trip. Is Naples worth visiting?

Naples is definitely one of the places to see in a lifetime. It offers a lot of travel attractions, however, you may not be able to visit them all during 2 2-day city break. Therefore, it is good to book a trip even for 5 days. Then you will be able to sightsee the city and go on a trip to Vesuvius volcano or to Pompeii as well.

Advantages of Naples

The big advantage of the city is the architecture. One of the best part of Naples city is the seaside, where you can adore a really beautiful view of the town. As well, the city offers a lot of tourist attractions and the possibility to take a rest on the beach after sightseeing.

Depending on what you like you can choose places to visit from many museums, cathedrals, and castles, go for a walk on the popular streets such as Via Toledo and Via S. Gregorio Armeno, or visit unique underground city and catacombs. Most of the entrance tickets cost from 9 to 12 euros, but to some places, you may go for free. This is a big plus when you want to see something interesting, but you do not have a lot of money.

The last thing that is Naples‘s advantage is its location near Vesuvius volcano and Pompeii. Directly from the central Naples train station, you can get to those places in less than an hour. You may have an unforgettable volcano visit or see the ancient city which was ruined by the Vesuvius eruption thousands of years ago. Despite this, Pompeii has kept some ancient architecture, tools, sculptures, and paintings in good condition. Which are adorable.

Disadvantages of Naples

The only inconvenience in Naples is the traffic and public transport. There are a lot of traffic jams and buses do not come on time. It is hard to understand the metro lines, its stations, and what tickets you should buy. As well, the possibility of buying a bus ticket is limited. You may find ticket machines at some metro stations, but you may have a problem with buying it somewhere else. Especially directly from the bus driver, when the bus is full of people, so you cannot get to the driver.

Positive surprises and disappointments in Naples city break

During my Naples trip, I was positively surprised by the look of the city. I enjoyed the beautiful Italian buildings and monuments. I was very satisfied with Naples’s underground city, as sightseeing was interesting and fun. As it was my first trip to Italy, I was positively surprised by the low prices and very tasty food.

What disappointed me in Naples was the very bad public transport, which I described before. Traveling 4 km from the hotel to the beach took me 1,5 hours, which was exhausting. I could not make this distance on foot, as I walked a lot already during sightseeing. Therefore, my plans to connect sightseeing with leisure did not go as planned.

I am satisfied with the places I visited in Naples during 5 days travel, and my trip to Pompeii. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to go to the catacombs, and I was not able to walk through most of the seashore as I planned. Time management went wrong during my Naples city break.

You just need to prepare for problems with public transport and traffic jams and plan the trip carefully to be able to see all that you want, during the time you have.
